Daphne's frightening first evening in her new home turned her reality upside down. She faced a very real situation with no escape and came to grips with a preposterous fact — the spirit of the previous owner, Dr. Arthur Wake, was also dwelling in her house. Over time, the ghost’s small encroachments became brazen, but Daphne realized the spirit meant her and her daughters no harm.

The Victorian’s library still contained the doctor’s books, filled with great wisdom from across the ages. With the ghost's assistance, Daphne studied night after night, being promised a way to give to others through teaching. She became a vessel for vast amounts of arcane knowledge and was inspired to create a school in the house. This did, however, leave her with a nagging thought — what did the ghost really want?
